Why aren't we happy and how do we get happiness?
Researchers tell us that self-reported levels of happiness have not increased since the 1950s, even though the national wealth has increased. Link: El Paso Times - There's work involved in achieving happiness. Why? It seems that we are on a hedonic treadmill always striving for the next thing that will bring us pleasure, but we are unable to buy enough or do enough or be rich enough to be happy. And what, then, will bring us happiness?
Happiness Is Easy!
"Real happiness takes
work," say some experts. "And, like lush lawns, fancy cars and healthy marriages, it
requires maintenance. It's easier, they say, to be unhappy than
happy."
I say, "happiness is easy!" And, the means for you to be happy is only a heartbeat away - in your power of choice. To have happiness, stop looking to find it and choose to be happy!
Happiness is your authentic state, the True You. Unhappiness may be normal but it's surely not natural. Unhappiness may appear easier because it is an addictive habit and like any other "addiction" it seems hard to quit.
A Matter of Choice
The truth is happiness or unhappiness is a matter of choice. You can choose to be happy or miserable and whichever you choose that is what you get. As Abraham Lincoln once said: “People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be."
"Choose Happiness," A podcast I published last year provides inspiration and simple yet profoundly powerful things guaranteed to create happiness.
